Me and Mister Jones, Mister Jones, mr jones...

A rip-off of a verse from Singapore Idol Taufik's "highly acclaimed" song that sky-rocketed him to a new level of fame and a place in the judges hearts. Me and Mrs Jones. I changed the lyrics a bit though, cos I'm a girl and its a guy that I'm pinning for at the moment.

I'm in love with this new singer(haha! bet you thought it was finally some NTU boyfriend right!), Shi Kang Jun. I think if he had joined Singapore Idol, that sickening guy named after Warner Brother's loser feline whose feathered friend Tweety Bird is so much cuter, would not even have the chance to do his eye-winking, side smiling whatever-that-is pose. Made me waste many a dinner watching him man.

Anyway, back to Shi Kang Jun. He is from Singapore, if not how to join Singapore Idol right? Was a partner in a designing firm (I think its printing T-shirts or something, though on TV it sounded so great. Its TV leh! But if its true I will swoon even more) which he gave up to pursue his music career. Writes some pretty lyrics, has a sorta rocker's voice with a gentler, sweeter touch, and looks good! My DHS friends say I have weird taste when it comes to good-looking guys so I think you better judge for yourself on that.

Yes933(its a chinese radio station) always plays my favourite song, a Shi Kang Jun duet with SHIN (a rock band of old tall men), Ai Zhong Fei Xing. Very very nice! *I know I'm delirious and swooning but let me be* Loved it even more after watching the music video. Not easy for 2 guys to sing a duet and not give off gay innuendoes ok. There are other songs but I'm too lazy to elaborate. My vocab is not good enough to describe my feelings too. Haha. Anyway, I'm going to buy his CD tomorrow. Speaks volumes from a girl whose Daddy buys 70% of her CD collection from a pirate in China. Its only S$1-2 leh!

You know what is his only flaw? His english name is Jones. Yucks! So or-biang and uncool. No good-looking talented singer is called Jones. At least none that I know of. Though its better than Jimmy and Tommy and Benny, Jones is an unforgivable name for a star! Should change it to something like "Jay"... so suave and cool and oh my god, I can't continue anymore. Haha.

Suddenly realised that most of the singers I like have names that start with "J". Jay Chou(!!!), Jacky Cheung, Jeff Chang(the sissy boy whom I don't really like now) and now Jones(eee-yur) Shi Kang Jun. Go listen! If you like Chinese songs that is.

Imperfectionist?

Yesterday I went for my first ever manicure. Strictly speaking, it's my second one though. Ruoying helped me do my nails for prom night a few years back because she was attending some manicuring class and needed nails to practise on. They say you pay $22 to feel like a queen (the Singaporean version is called Tai-tai), letting people do your nails while you just stick your hand out in make-belief arrongance. It is supposed to just trim away the cuticles and shape your nails, but apparently the nail polish (I chose this colour called "coffee break". Its a bit beige brown. Not loud and not too mild.. but not the conventional colour) will not last for long. Deep in my heart though, I hoped that the $22 nails would last in perfect condition for more than 5 days (although its impossible from what I heard).

My $22 didn't even last for 3 hours! Just as I was admiring the nice smooth polish on my nails, and how they glistened in reflected light, I noticed a small crater in my right fore-finger nail. You know how it is to be caught up in perfection so much so that it eats you up and the slightest flaw sticks out like a sore thumb? I was heartbroken, though I tried not to show it. The first imperfection in less than 3 hours! I kept staring at it, rubbing it and just silently lamenting my loss (tried not to verbally complain too much to Sining, in case she found me a nuisance).

Just like my nail, I think my life is the epitome of imperfection and boredom(boring colour, not like yellow or orange or green or blue). My lifestyle seems to stick out like a sore thumb when compared with my friends. MSisters are thinking of starting a band - Sining(drums), HweePing (singer), El(bassist), Yiling(keyboards is it?) etc. They asked me what I wanted to be. I told them the truth - that I wasn't the slightest bit interested. Just like how I cannot be bothered to run 5 to 8km with them everyday to train for the half-army marathon (I think I'd belong to the jog-walk-stop category), how I have inertia when I think of clubbing, how even going on a holiday doesn't excite me the way it excites the others.

The things that I really like to do, are not the big scale things that promise loads of fun. Just sitting down in Parkway(don't even need to go to Town) with my old friends, listening to my Chinese songs, eating good food, sleeping at home, reading library books... I'm really satisfied, I am. Boring life for a boring person. I think I'm getting old, my excitement and looking-forward-to-things are not even comparable in magnitude to my other friends. Which is why, relatively nonchalent me sticks out like a crater in a fingernail - out of place and uncalled for. El tells me its the lack of romance. But frankly, I'm not interested too, even though I always blog about how i want a GUY, or how I tell my friends to get me a GUY for my birthday.

Fake one lar. =P

To date, in a span of about 24hours, I have 4 fingernails with chipped paint, a nail with hair dye streaks (El and Sining stayed over to dye El's hair. Sining thinks the streaks are cool though, kinda like a pattern painted over), and the crater just got larger. And you know what? I don't really care anymore. When the imperfection does not stick out so much, when there are other flaws and scars, nothing seems to matter anymore.

Maybe manicures were never meant for me.

Ladies and Gentlemen may I have your attention please

It seems my Cinderella post illustrated Zaw as a big-mouth or a bully and apparently he has been CONDEMNED. Hahah. It was detrimental to his reputation (though he claims he doesn't have one) and I made a mistake by saying he told the whole of Downunder (he only told one person, the rest just happened to be there listening). But before you go and throw eggs at his door (its the one with the green mat outside) for bullying little ole me, there is something you must know.

Zaw is a great guy.

So what exactly is my post about? Its about Zaw. And about starting up a Zaw fanclub to try and make up for all the aftermath of my blog post on him.

To all you people out there, you might be wondering how come I know Zaw and who the hell is he anyway. He is the famous Hall 3 Road Relay Captain (meaning fit and not fat. In fact very skinny and tall), a Mr Nice-guy (I can train less and run slower if I say I am tired), Funny, Best Social Subcommer of the Year (meaning he is sociable and nice and responsible), Hall 3 Road Relay Captain, Mr Nice-Guy..... You get the idea. I'd post a glorious picture of him here but the one and only precious picture I have is is with him. Sad case right. Zaw is one hell of a catch! Sadly, he has been caught.

I see you young single ladies sigh in disappointment. Don't fret however, cos the
ZAW FANCLUB
is here!

Registration: Leave your name and one reason why you love Zaw on the tagboard.
Fees: Free
Aim: To build a great fanbase for Zaw
Vision: To establish a Zaw empire
Chairperson: ME, for the simple reason that I am the road relay i/c. Of course, you can vye for my position and try to oust me out of the hot seat. I'm diplomatic and open to competition. Haha.
Activities: Zealous Agitating Work

Hail Almighty Zaw!

it was worth sleeping only 3+ hours

My dad came back from China early morning on Monday. I slept at 2++am last night and this morning, decided to wake up early to go for breakfast with him and my mum. I woke at 6.30am. Meaning 3+ hours of sleep only. A first, considering that 3+ hours used to be my nap time. Haha.

Dad and Mum told me alot about the recent unexpected happenings in work that made them very stressed and uptight. Its finally taking a toil on them and they might not be able to handle it anymore. I seldom see my Dad nowadays, he is always travelling abroad trying to solve problems and get more sales for our family business, the business that supports 4 families. He now comes back home for only one or two weeks and I don't see him till about three weeks or a month later. Different from the days when he could stay at home for about a month before travelling again. My Mum is a wonderwoman too. She has to juggle our house-chores, work in the business, take care of my ailing granny and worry about my brother and me all the time.

As they spoke to me today, I wanted to cry. I have always known that it's been tough on them but I never knew the magnitude of it. I regret being the selfish brat that I am, adding to their worries and frustration instead of trying to alleviate their burdens. I have always been working free-lance for them since I started Uni, but I think from next sem onwards, I'll want to do more than just that. While they tell me I need not feel obligated to help out just because I'm the eldest next generationer, I want to.

If I don't help my family who will?

In a way, they made me rethink my priorities and I am beginning to set new direction in my life. I now realise that I have to study hard, to prepare for the worst in future. Cannot assume that I can fall back on the family business all the time. It makes me understand that while I love hall, I love my family more. Way way more. Things that I want to do, I may have to sacrifice if it requires more responsibility and time that I can handle. May have to consider the commitments and plans in hall that I had at first. Its not hard really, now that I've found new meaning in my life and finally have a set of priorities to guide me along the way.

My Dad is going to speak to our company auditor after my exams (see how spoilt I am? I don't even have to actively search for a job myself). To see if they are willing to let me do some simple paperwork stuff (ie:cheap labour) there during the holidays. Its not a big company, but then again, I'm not someone with great academic credentials. If it goes through, I think I'll spend my holidays working there and helping out in the family business part-time. Then there is the 2005/2006 FOC preparations, GL and seniors camp plus the actual FOC to look forward to. Not to mention The Great Singapore Sale and catching up with my old friends. The holiday plans are set! :)

Think its high time I grew up. After all, I'm already 20. Not old enough to vote and watch RA movies, but old enough to be more responsible and to know better.

For now, I think I need some sleep! It might be worth sleeping so little at night to spend time with my parents, but I won't be able to last on so little sleep... at least not during this period of time anyway.

shape up. or ship out. and probably freak out too.

I really must start to be more serious in my work. A quick personal update though. My complexion is improving! I think I can safely say that good complexion comes with adequate sleep and minimal stress.

Anyway, I had the worst dream ever last night.

Stats paper changed examining format to be like an oral paper format. By which, it means that each person takes the test after the previous person has taken it, but we still do it in the written form. I was the first person to take (so suay), and for 2 hours I just stared at the paper and did not write anything. Because I didn't know how to do anything! Mind you now, Stats is open-book, so you can imagine how freaked out I was. Then with half an hour left, I suddenly realised how to most of the questions. They were very easy, really. Just that my brain didn't warm up. I wrote and scribbled and tried to think of excuses so that I could re-sit the paper again. Time was up and I only completed about 30% of the whole paper. I just wrote on and on and on and on. I was half an hour late in handing in my paper and only finished 50% of it. And because I was late, I was penalised.

The whole dream is damn scary. Especially the looking at the paper and not knowing how to do, then finally seeing the light but no time. I woke up and scared myself. Think its my unconsciousness telling me to shape up or ship out (since I've not studied for my Stats).

They say dreams are a reflection of your life and dreams do come true. I pray mine won't, or I'll bloody hell freak out. :)

no productivity. and it gets worse.

Wonder why I have not the least started studying my Stats and FM when I'm far from confident about them. Granted that I'm a F-Math student so Stats should be a breeze, but this is the meet-the-HOD-on-the-verge-of-dropping-but-refuse-to-drop material you are talking about here. Plus the previous blog posts (if its not accounting its fm) are further testament to my FM abilities. Bah!

I just rested none stop for 2.5 days! Half of the day after accounting exam which was a well deserved one, the whole of Thursday - nothing wrong too. But you should have thought that by Friday, I would get out of the sofa, switch off the TV and sit on my desk. Sat on my desk I did, but I did not do any work. Unless you count confirming the appendix that we are going to be given with Sining and "the bald one".

I seriously wonder if one could die from oversleeping.

Didn't go to VJ in the end as I was too lazy. I think the proximity to college makes me even more unmotivated to walk down, cos afterall I can still go again another day.

Ok la, time to gather my lazy bones and start studying. I'm so nua even my posts pale in comparison now.

Sigh.

learning to blog concise posts

1. Accounting exam was better than expected but still difficult and very tricky in my opinion.

2. Went to cut hair (again). Pleased with the outcome. Will do something else to it soon, hopefully.

3. Disappointed with my brother for being the "alpha" male who likes long haired girls who are meek, gentle and don't speak their minds etc. Never will I get his support for expressing my own views or cutting short hair. And he is my brother.

4. No mood to study. In Winnie-the-Pooh-like laziness, appetite for sweet stuff included.

5. Too much of a good thing or person (eg: chocolates!) is not such a good idea afterall.

6. I think I need time alone. As in really alone. Might go back to VJ to catch up on Tang, Szeling, Zhenhao and Mingen tomorrow. And maybe my old teachers like Lam, Foo, Koh and Uengy? Think I'll go to VJ alone too. Really can't bear anymore company.

7. It's weird how some people advise you how to get a grip of your life and stuff when their's is even more screwed up than yours.

the fairy angel of accounting hope speaks

You must be wondering what the hell am I talking about. What fairy angel of accounting hope? Heck there isn't a tooth fairy or a fairy godmother since there are no scientific explanations to quantify their existence. But you are so wrong. Cos the fairy angel is here.

ME.

Don't laugh.

Let me explain in detail. It's the day before D-Day. D-Day where a lot of us are going to plunge down the deep depths of accounting misery and come out of the exam venue feeling like shit. Sining and me tried doing some last minute mugging but to no avail. We decided to go back to our halls and prepare for the worst, the kinda "xin li zun bei" logic. Then all of a sudden, the Goddess of Accounting Hope signed into msn with the magic words everyone wants to hear.

"Who wants accounting exam answers".

The Goddess happens to be Tseying, a hall friend, and though we didn't really have much contact throughout the exam period, she sent the answers to me! Thank you so much. You gave me the strength to continue and to put in the last ditch effort into something I already gave up on. You gave me a new lease of hope and let me see some light in the dark. You are the Goddess of my LIFE.

Haha.. ok enough mushy stuff.

So, I figured, if some stupid answers can make me feel so ALIVE and so full of HOPE and that all is NOT LOST, my other friends can feel the same way too. Thus were the first beginnings of the fairy angel of accounting hope.

I guess its nice to send useful stuff to people and let everyone benefit from it. Nice to know that you could make someone feel better just by not being selfish, giving people that lease of hope, sharing woes about the stupid subject and encouraging one another. It seems like kharma. So what if more people know the "model answer" now and that getting a good grade via the bell curve becomes harder. I have good kharma to last me through the horrors. And when other friends like Ziqian send me his notes to refer and use, I feel damn happy and loved.

The joys of sharing something good and receiving good stuff in return.

I don't care if I abandoned my slipper in the rain before marketing exam and got my sling bag tangled up with the staircase door handle before malay exam. Tomorrow, the fairy angel of accounting hope speaks. And hopefully things will go my way finally.

The story of rainwater, the road, and a cinderella shoe

The sky was threatening and the wind was what a blast from the aircon would have felt like to a ladybird. Torrents of rain swept down the roads, dashing all hopes of a short rainless spell to journey to Nanyang Audi. Huijing(the hero in our story), was nervous. Her first exam paper of the sem began in twenty minutes and her friends still did not want to leave the hall!

As our hero journeys down the steps of Hall 3 Block 21, she sees her friends Zaw and Yutian.

Zaw: "You all got bring umbrella?"
Huijing: "Aiya! We forgot to bring umbrella!"
June: "Aiya, nevermind. Use our jacket."
Huijing: "Oh ya... I can use my windbreaker!" (then upon looking at it) "But its not waterproof!" (sweatdrop)

Huijing and June teetered at the brink of the walkway shelter, not knowing whether to make a dash for it. They contemplated and considered and checked for on-coming cars. It was going to be a long dash, one that required speed and a burst of power. You had to be on your toes all the time.

Huijing(ready to make a dash for it): "Ok... lets go!"
June: "Wait wait!! I haven't wear my jacket properly!" (after wearing) "Ok! lets go!"
Huijing: "Wait wait! I must adjust my bag the other way. Here got netting our phones will get wet in the rain!"

Huijing adjusts her bag but finds she cannot sling it properly and thus lets it dangle on her neck. Clutching the bag close to her chest, she turns to June and nods.

Huijing(this time for real): "Ok, lets go!"

And so with a burst of speed the two girls ran. They could not afford to get too wet, for the exam venue would be very cold, yet to take an umbrella would put them in risk for being late. June and Huijing, with heads drooped and arms wrapped tightly around themselves, ran for their lives. Or so they thought.

Huijing(to herself): Chiong ah!! Eh... why the floor so har- My Slipper!!

There, lying in the middle of the road, was Huijing's slipper. Cold, abandoned and very wet. Huijing didn't know what to do. She could...

1. Leave her slipper there and hope that a prince charming would pick it up, go to the Nanyang Audi and let every girl test fit it. Huijing would fit into her slipper and get her Prince Charming.

2. Go back and take the slipper and
part(i) continue her ardous run in the rain (it was a long way)
part(ii) run back to the shelter in shame where Yutian was standing, and most probably laughing. (shorter route to shelter)

She chose option 2 part(ii). Little did she know that Zaw was back with an umbrella, and Zaw being Zaw would tell everyone in Downunder about it! But hey, on with the story... :P

Just when Huijing thought that her life was over and that she could die in shame without taking the exam, up popped her fairy god-fathers, Daimler and Teck Seng. They had a pumpkin which magically transformed into an umbrella! Huijing could go to the Nanyang Audi afterall!

Unlike the conventional fairy tales where the hero lives happily ever after, Huijing our hero will not. After that incident, she wrote out of point for her marketing essay and will forever live in the horrors of her accounting abyss.

The End

Fickle Minded Soul

When people ask me to go out... I never hesistate. Unless they're asking me to go out study (and sometimes to club). For one, my body and mind cannot coordinate properly, since my mind is preconditioned such that going out equals fun, but my body wants to get away from the monotony of staying at one place all the time.

Anyway, I have to say a big thank you to the few friends who could put up with my fickle-mindedness (ie: 5 min ago saying ok to going out to study and then saying I don't want to anymore but turning up anyway) and sorry for causing so much trouble. The receiving end of it all is mostly Sining, who keeps jioing me out to study. Yiling, El and Weiling are also included.

THANK YOU and SORRY!!!

I think I'd stay at home and keep to myself this time. :)

Great Expectations

I got back my accounting practice assignment. For those non-NTUs, its basically a big quiz where we do balance sheets and stuff in unconducive lecture theatre conditions, and that accounts for 16% of our coursework.

I barely passed.

The thing is that I could f**k care it all since I should be able to pass the module anyway (I had a good project grade to pull up a D in class participation and two quizes = 1/10). But I cannot settle for a C or a D. Its this thing about expectations and wanting to do well. Nothing less than a B for all my subjects. Great expectations from a small(not refering to my size) clueless girl. Great? Expectations?

You might think that its a lofty ambition. But when you look my track record of high-flying achievements, you can't deny that academic-wise, I'm really cream of the crop (seriously). The cream gets to the top 10 secondary schools and top 5 JCs, manages intensive sports and still gets above average results. And while my A levels were a self proclaimed academic disaster, its still one A and three Bs, which is still quite top notch results in comparison.

Like main character Pip in the Charles Dicken's version of Great Expectations, I am treading the marshes of danger and uncertainty, where insecurity grips me. Not hard, but hard enough.

Bloody hell!

Just when I say that I am beautiful and intelligent, which is already subjective by nature, lao tian ye has to punish me and make me utterly convinced that I am the stupid blur person that I always am.

It started with a weak bladder and an urge to go to the toilet. After that, I threw my keys into the toilet dustbin.

Note:
1. I had to lock my door and bring my keys around due to the many thefs in hall.
2. Being a girl's toilet dustbin, yes, there were unmentionables in it.
3. I had to really fish my keys out. Bloody hell!(pun intended for more in depth descriptive purposes.)

And while I coated my keys (and keychain) in lots and lots of handsoap, I can never erase the psychological bacteria on them and delete the emotional trauma of having to get the bunch of keys out of the bin.

And the fingers on my left hand will forever rot in the disgusting-ness of it all.

Yucky yucks yucks!

At times like this, I wish I wasn't an NTU student

I don't know why... but it seems as though people are trying to compete to see who has more terrible lives, who has more problems and stress, who needs more help, who is being more victimized by the harsh world.

Chin up. Stay positive. Nothing can get us down.

***

Now for the real post.

Miss Singapore Universe just came to a close. So we all know that beautiful women with brains won't even enter the competition (if not, why wasn't I in? haha.. kidding ar!), for you never know what to expect. A slip of your tongue and you'll be on the newspapers and the butt of ridicule. Plus, you've got to have the assets, the hair, the slim waist to match too. Quite a feat I must say. And apparently, most of the contestants were really erm... mental-intelligently challenged. Especially a particular NTU student who felt our fine university was not getting enough bad publicity and marketing.

I quote from The New Paper.

" In truth, Cheryl(the unanimous winner) had a very close contender, 19-year-old NTU undergrad Ling Lee - before she stuck her foot in her mouth. But she bombed during the Q&A, where she was asked to choose her favourite cultural festival other than her own.... She stammered nervously: 'Racial Harmony Day because when I was in secondary school, I had a lot of fun dressing up as an Indian.' The judges were probably expecting something along the line of Deepavali or Hari Raya. Her answer was rather crude and bordered on being irrelevant at best and politically incorrect at worst. And Ling also couldn't hide her cheena accent...When told that the Q&A segment sealed her fate, she said: 'Racial Harmony Day is a festival right? It's only right to say that!
'I guess I didn't give an explicit explanation'."

Horror of horrors!! A 19 year old undergrad not knowing what a FESTIVAL is? A fellow school mate who likes festivals because she can dress up as an Indian and have fun? Another female who gives men the chance to laugh for being utterly stupid? The shame! At this point... I am lazy to give an explicit explanation about why I feel so embarrassed and disgusted to be associated with NTU, admist all the useless rubbish rumours about the campus being haunted, and how we don't measure up against SMU.

To add icing to the cake, the paper reported "The same thing happened to hot MediaCorp actress and It girl Joanne Peh(oh wow! another NTU gal!) in 2002. And look where she is now."

Hmm... seems like we only have Sun Yanzi in our Global University of Excellence(for those who don't know, this happens to be the Uni's vision. Like huh?), the solitary star worth mentioning. Even then, where does NTU fit into her music career?

At times like this, I sure wish I wasn't an NTU student.
