lightning and thunder
Rain drops drum mercilessly at my window. A trajectory motion created by the howling winds, blowing the cool dusty drops of water onto my face and wetting my pillow. The wind lifts my blinds high up and slams it back down against the grill, moaning and howling and then screaming as it intensifies in strength and volume. Another storm in the already gloomy weather. Have I been asking for too much rain?
I haul my tired body up, and reach out to close my window. The road below becomes shiny and moist once more; the grass on the hill enduring yet another battering; the sky turning the gloomy and now all so familar grey; the dust washing down in dirty streams from the school building. A split second, a blinding flash of light and a loud boom. All at once. Right before my eyes.
And then time stops.
Lightning and thunder seem so much more powerful and scary in NTU than at home. Its roars with great vengence as if trying to seek you down. To unleash its overwhelming anger and frustration, to curse the dark and unhappy world it has always been in. Unjustice? Disappointment? Why the unhappiness?
Have we been like this too? Letting our resentment get the better of us just because all we see is something bleak and cold? Do we vent our fury on something that is so temporary and immaterial just because we do not see the greener pastures on the other side of a brighter world? Lightning and thunder come only in a storm, where everything is harsh and grey. They do not see the rainbow after the storm and the sunshine that soon follows, the blooming of a new life, a world that has been washed clean of sins.
We can.
Life is just another journey, with many paths to take. Take the dark, lonely, dangerous one once in a while, and when we emerge, we will learn to appreciate the warmth and sunshine all around us. Don't curse and swear and think that life is all gone just because the going looks bleak. Its just another storm. Don't take the myopic stand, look forward to the sunshine after the rain. Have I taken the path less travelled? I hope I have, and I hope it has made all the difference.
We all have a choice. Which path would YOU choose?
